HORTENSIA HERRERO ART CENTER: AN ICON OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN VALENCIA

The Hortensia Herrero Art Center was established with a dual purpose: to share the most significant international contemporary art with society and to position the Valencian Community as a leading cultural and artistic destination. It is not only a showcase of the best in modern art but also an invitation to discover València from a unique cultural perspective.
The Hortensia Herrero Foundation was founded in 2012 with the mission of fostering interest and appreciation for art and culture. Under the leadership of Hortensia Herrero, its patron, the foundation undertakes projects that combine restoration, dance, and contemporary art. This institution channels its philanthropic spirit with the goal of giving back to the Valencian society all that it has received from it.
The center houses an impressive private collection that includes works by renowned artists such as Andreas Gursky, Anselm Kiefer, Georg Baselitz, Anish Kapoor, and Mat Collishaw. Many of these artists have created site-specific pieces for the museum, seamlessly integrated into its carefully designed spaces.
Located in the iconic Valeriola Palace, the Hortensia Herrero Art Center comprises two four-story buildings with 17 exhibition spaces, totaling over 3,500 square meters. This historic palace, whose restoration took over five years, preserves remnants of the Roman circus of Valentia and, between the 11th and 13th centuries, was part of the Muslim Balansiya.
Visiting the center is a comprehensive cultural experience in the heart of València. This space not only celebrates contemporary art but also highlights the city’s rich history and architectural heritage, making it an essential destination for both locals and visitors eager to enjoy the fusion of tradition and modernity, of past and future.
